The Somali Congress of Trade Unions (SOCOTU) delegation led by chairman general brother Mohamed Osman Haji, Secretary General Brother Ahmed Hassan Omar and Abdalkarim Mohamed Moalim from the international relations department are attending the 106th session of the international labour conference.
The SOCOTU leaders are part of a large delegation comprising of the tripartite partners for Somalia led by the Minister for labour and social affairs Minister Salah Ahmed Jama. This year’s theme is building a future with decent work. The 106th session brings together over 4000 delegates from all over the world to discuss the problems faced in the world of work today.
The International Labour Conference (ILC) brings together all member states of the International Labour organization (ILO) who choose their representatives to the governing body of the ILO. The Governing Body is the executive body of the International Labour Organization. It meets three times a year, in March, June and November. It takes decisions on ILO policy, decides the agenda of the International Labour Conference, adopts the draft Programme and Budget of the Organization for submission to the Conference, and elects the Director-General. It is composed of 56 titular members (28 Governments, 14 Employers and 14 Workers) and 66 deputy members (28 Governments, 19 Employers and 19 Workers).
On behalf of the Somali workers the SOCOTU wishes to present its agenda to its international partners so as to enable the Somali workers to benefit greatly from it.
